When my best friend gave up on me...

 
Huh Huhu... It was the busiest period of the season.. but my best friend finally gave up on me.. a few days before Eid.. Luckily.. all cookies were prepared.. before my faithful oven..aka..my best fren.. broke down.. And I didn't even realise that there was any problem at all. All that I notice was my layered cakes (2 pcs) were burnt at the bottom eventhough no 'bottom flames' were on. It was a total heartache to have wasted nearly 50pcs of eggs for nothing. Then.. switch to my mini conventional oven.. and smoke started coming out. Gosh.. what was that..???#@/! There was a burning smell as well.. (Dugaan.. dugaan..) And you wouldn't believe me... on the last night of Ramadhan.. my microwave oven..didn't get heat-up.. eventhough it was switch on... Nasib...... So.. my baking project has to stop temporarily.. or probably I still can use the oven.. only has to succumb to the irregular temperature.. What say you?

To Mama Siti.. who requested for Black pepper Beef recipe.. this is how I prepared mine.. Kindly adjust to suit your liking.. cos.. I don't really have a basic recipe.. (Ini kan kes campak2) I tried to recall the approximate measurement... But you should do it according to your taste yaa..







DAGING BLACK PEPPER

500g daging batang pinang (dihiris tipis)
1 sudu kecil bawang putih dicincang
1 sudu besar sweet sauce (boleh guna kicap manis saja)
1 sudu makan oyster sauce
1 sudu makan lada hitam ditumbuk kasar
1/4 cawan air
Minyak untuk menumis

Bahan B:
1 cawan capsicum (campur semua warna) dihiris
1 biji bawang bangla di potong enam
1 ikat daun bawang dipotong sepanjang 3 inci
2 biji tomato besar potong enam
3 inci halia di hiris halus seperti batang mancis

Panaskan sedikit minyak dikuali.. masukkan bawang putih, daging dan serbuk lada hitam. Tumis sehingga daging empuk.. Akhir sekali masukkan sos manis, sos tiram, dan kesemua bahan B. Setelah sebati.. masukkan sedikit air. Bubuh garam dan gula jika perlu..





Specially to Cik Bawang.. I did my Black Pepper Prawn.. just like the above recipe. Only I would substitute the cooking oil with butter.. Adjust anything to your liking.. my dear..


I was drooling when I saw kuih lopes at MamaFami's fotopage. So I decided to make my own lopes.. my USUAL way.. You see.. I know.. and I read in many blogs how.. people would prefer the improvised version as they are more simplified and "tak leceh'. But over here, we are so used to making our lopes this way.. that we don't really find anything 'leceh' about it. Sometimes, we would prepare around hundred to three hundreds pieces for special occasions like wedding and small gathering. I guess.. it's just fun.. when you fold the triangles.. just like folding your samosas..






How I make my Lopes:
I will soak my glutinous rice with a teaspoon of alkaline water and leave for about 2-3 hours. Then wash them well and drain them. Prepare the banana leaves.. tear them into 3inches strips. Before that, you may softened the banana leaves by dipping in hot water. Then fold the banana strips into a cone by the end. Fill with 2 dessertspoon of glutinous rice.. and fold compact like you are folding a samosa. Tie them up with raffias. Or you may also use rubber-bands. Boil in boiling water for 3-4 hours. Once cooked... drain and cool thoroughly. Discard the banana leaves and cover lopes with steamed coconut.. and have it with your palm-sugar syrup.. Yummy...

Pernah buat seperti bentuk lontong dan potong bulat2 setelah dimasak.. tapi my hubby kata.. tak sedap.. kurang bau daun pisang.. hahhaa

Ruby ~ Aiyoh..larling.. I no cleber lah... I dah buat lopes since young.. Infact, lontong pun I rebus sendiri from young tanpa acuan tau.. just daun pisang.. Practice makes perfect... You jangan putus asa... cuba hingga berjaya.. it's nothing impossible ok..
Lily ~ Ish.. ader jugak orang M'sia yang buat lopes tiga segi ni yer... Hmm.. untungnyer Lily.. mummy sayang eh... Nak makan suruh emak buat eh....
Kak Leen ~ Budak2 mesti suka Leen.. manissss kan dengan air gula tu...

and the daging black pepper recipe..AGAIN, just what I need sbb baru beli daging kelmarin K.rossya ada tips utk kasik daging frozen bila dimasak jd empuk tak? I've tried so many petua nothing seems to work except rebus lama2 is there a faster way to do it? thanks k.rossya!

Alahai, shian kat akak...semua perkakas elektrik akak pakat tunjuk perasaan la tu. Penat agaknya bekerja. Tak apalah kak, maybe dah sampai masa nak beli yang baru kot. Sedapnya masakan akak kat atas tu. The best thing about kuih lopes yang dibungkus daun pisang ni, pada kita la kan...bau dia tu...memang tak leh celen la dengan improvise version. u so the cleberlah, i salute orang2 yg cleber dalam bidang makanan dan masakan. as for me i berapa kali buat kuih koci pun tak pas2 nak membungkusnya, apatah lagi si lopes ni and i'm frustrated dgn diri i sendiri pasal lopes is one of my favorite kuih & i like it berbungkus cara lama. anything yg berpulut tu lah yg menjadi pilihan hatiku. i hope tak terlambat i ucapkan kak CELAMAT HARI RAYA. aduh kesian nya oven dah kaput! my 20 years SMEG oven still working overtime, hopefully jangan mati dulu.....tenaga nya masih di perlukan!!! tapi dah ada oven kecil buat stanby, itupun menang lucky draw kat dh's D&D.

Kuih lopes sini mcm yg mamafami buat tuh lah... bulat2 leper... so bila my husband nampak ketupat pulut dlm balutan daun tuh, dia terus tanya itu kih lopes ke. To us funny lah sbb tak tahu menahu that di sana itu kuih lopes mmg dibaluti sedemikian...
Haaa nanti bila balik sana lagi, mmg nak check lah Or, suruh akak buat aja ya? Heheheh

Rosyaa, kite org Kedah buat kuih lopes memang balut dgn daun pisang tapi kita balut memanjang (mcm batal peluk tu), ikat kedua2 ujung dan tengah dgn tali rafia. Tapi pulut tu kita masak dgn air daun pandan, jadinya lopes sebelah utara ni (Kedah) warnanya hijau, cantik & wangi.....bila potong gunakan benang, bentuknya bulat2 Sun 19-Nov-2006 07:51
