When my best friend gave up on me...

 
Huh Huhu... It was the busiest period of the season.. but my best friend finally gave up on me.. a few days before Eid.. Luckily.. all cookies were prepared.. before my faithful oven..aka..my best fren.. broke down.. And I didn't even realise that there was any problem at all. All that I notice was my layered cakes (2 pcs) were burnt at the bottom eventhough no 'bottom flames' were on. It was a total heartache to have wasted nearly 50pcs of eggs for nothing. Then.. switch to my mini conventional oven.. and smoke started coming out. Gosh.. what was that..???#@/! There was a burning smell as well.. (Dugaan.. dugaan..) And you wouldn't believe me... on the last night of Ramadhan.. my microwave oven..didn't get heat-up.. eventhough it was switch on... Nasib...... So.. my baking project has to stop temporarily.. or probably I still can use the oven.. only has to succumb to the irregular temperature.. What say you?

To Mama Siti.. who requested for Black pepper Beef recipe.. this is how I prepared mine.. Kindly adjust to suit your liking.. cos.. I don't really have a basic recipe.. (Ini kan kes campak2) I tried to recall the approximate measurement... But you should do it according to your taste yaa..







DAGING BLACK PEPPER

500g daging batang pinang (dihiris tipis)
1 sudu kecil bawang putih dicincang
1 sudu besar sweet sauce (boleh guna kicap manis saja)
1 sudu makan oyster sauce
1 sudu makan lada hitam ditumbuk kasar
1/4 cawan air
Minyak untuk menumis

Bahan B:
1 cawan capsicum (campur semua warna) dihiris
1 biji bawang bangla di potong enam
1 ikat daun bawang dipotong sepanjang 3 inci
2 biji tomato besar potong enam
3 inci halia di hiris halus seperti batang mancis

Panaskan sedikit minyak dikuali.. masukkan bawang putih, daging dan serbuk lada hitam. Tumis sehingga daging empuk.. Akhir sekali masukkan sos manis, sos tiram, dan kesemua bahan B. Setelah sebati.. masukkan sedikit air. Bubuh garam dan gula jika perlu..





Specially to Cik Bawang.. I did my Black Pepper Prawn.. just like the above recipe. Only I would substitute the cooking oil with butter.. Adjust anything to your liking.. my dear..


I was drooling when I saw kuih lopes at MamaFami's fotopage. So I decided to make my own lopes.. my USUAL way.. You see.. I know.. and I read in many blogs how.. people would prefer the improvised version as they are more simplified and "tak leceh'. But over here, we are so used to making our lopes this way.. that we don't really find anything 'leceh' about it. Sometimes, we would prepare around hundred to three hundreds pieces for special occasions like wedding and small gathering. I guess.. it's just fun.. when you fold the triangles.. just like folding your samosas..






How I make my Lopes:
I will soak my glutinous rice with a teaspoon of alkaline water and leave for about 2-3 hours. Then wash them well and drain them. Prepare the banana leaves.. tear them into 3inches strips. Before that, you may softened the banana leaves by dipping in hot water. Then fold the banana strips into a cone by the end. Fill with 2 dessertspoon of glutinous rice.. and fold compact like you are folding a samosa. Tie them up with raffias. Or you may also use rubber-bands. Boil in boiling water for 3-4 hours. Once cooked... drain and cool thoroughly. Discard the banana leaves and cover lopes with steamed coconut.. and have it with your palm-sugar syrup.. Yummy...
